About Me

“Ko Taupiri te Maunga, Ko Waikato te Awa, Ko Tainui te Waka, Ko Nicola tōku ingoa, Paimārire | Kia Ora, I’m Nicola. I'm a young Māori lawyer who was born and raised in Mangere, South Auckland. I have a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Auckland and have experience in governance, public law, and the public service. I enjoy working to develop strategies for success, am a keen problem solver, and thrive working to improve efficiency and productivity in everyday challenges. I have experience working in a range of different roles that have each required me to learn and diversify my skill set, however, I currently work as a Senior Advisor with a Treaty and Crown focus. I have governance experience, have worked to support an Ahu Whenua (Māori Land) Trust for the past 10 years to help achieve the development of a consistent revenue stream to the benefit of owners and want to continue learning, and being able to demonstrate my ability to bring fresh ideas and creative solutions to challenging issues. When I'm not working, I love to stroll the black sand beaches of the rugged West Coast, head out for a paddle on the Manukau Harbour or spend time with my whānau. Skills: Public Law, Governance, Regulatory, Compliance, Privacy, Team Leadership, Mentoring, Commercial Property, Māori Land”
