About Me

“I have taken an interest in boxing and competed in my first fight in June 2017. I also enjoy mountain biking and hockey playing for Mt Maunganui Club up until 2020. I have grown up in a family where not watching cricket and rugby was not an option, so I have come to thoroughly enjoy watching and being involved with these sports thanks to my brothers and my dad. I am an outgoing and enthusiastic person and I enjoy a challenge. After working in retail for so many years it has given me a strong set of interpersonal skills which I have refined in my first role at Council and my current role. I can deal with different personalities effectively. My current role has allowed me to establish a broad foundation of skills. I have established a strong connection with working for a community focussed organisation, every small matter I work on is part of a bigger picture which I find motivating. The Law degree and Management degree I obtained from Otago provides me with skills to be able to be effective across disciplines. Part of my previous roles entailed applying legislation to operational process across compliance functions in Council and ensuring their financial viability. I have managed and implemented software that provides for increased business efficiency. Providing advice on land issues that have competing priorities, where you to try to balance the duty of protection of community interests and amenity but also allow commercial enterprises to operate within the legislative requirements. What working for Council for the past 6 years has shown me is that one of the most effective ways to be part of and influence change in our community is to be on a committee or local board. ”
