About Me

“Ko Ngāti Kuri rātou ko Te Aupōuri, ko Ngāti Kahu, ko Te Rarawa ōku iwi Ko Te Uri O Tai tōku hapū Ko Whangape tōku moana Ko Rotokākahi tōku awa Ko Ongaro tōku maunga Ko Morehu tōku marae Ko Jim rao ko Gloria Herbert ōku Mātua Tūpuna Ko Anahera Herbert-Graves tōku whaea ko Jason Reti tōku hoa Rangatira Ko Chev Reti ahau Ko Liam, Sia, Romaine, Elite, Chelsea, Keiti, ko Jaime a māua tamariki. Education: I have led Early Education teams in a variety of center and home-based settings since 2005. As a member of the Roopu Kaitiāki for Te Kāhui Tai Kura o Te Hiku (Far North CoL) for its first 7 years, I was able to contribute not only my content knowledge but also utilize my networks to onboard all but 4 of the Early Learning Services in our catchment area. As a Te Whāriki Curriculum Champion with CORE Education, I had the opportunity to support various ELS in aligning Te Whāriki with their priorities and strategic direction. As the founder of Mauri Education and Social Services, I successfully built a company from a team of 2 ECE educators to over 50 kaimahi delivering early education, adult education, youth enterprise & wellbeing, whānau resilience, and tāne support initiatives across Te Hiku. Sports: I grew up in one of the original waka ama families and clubs. Being immersed in this indigenous watersport shaped my identity and perspective. As well as being a member of multiple National and World Champion teams over the last 30 years; I have also spent the last 10 years coaching junior teams, secretary of our club and led their strategic planning and implementation. These opportunities have allowed me to hone my skills in leading organizational change by gaining the trust of and consulting with key stakeholders to develop, evaluate, and implement strategies, programs, and associated budgets that meet the needs of our people. I have been fortunate to build inclusive relationships with individuals, whānau, marae, hapū, iwi, and organizations that have formed the basis for a respectful working culture that advances shared interests. As a member of The Brown Table, I also work in spaces where it is required to lead change thought at legislative, ministerial, local, whānau, and individual levels. This involves being a disruptor and an innovator with the cultural and social capital to make meaningful change.”
