Responsive to demand in the booming ratite industry I was instrumental in forming a subsidiary joint venture between our parent company (ASL) and a commercial livestock group that offered a molecular test for sexing breeding birds, under royalty to a US biotech. Our company was highly profitable and was closed when the industry wound down. The success of this venture was due to the connections and influence I had with international and industry colleagues.

Executive Director

Alpha Scientific Ltd

January 1995 - January 2003 (8 years)

The board of this successful IANZ-accredited (GLP) laboratory business consisted of 4 colleagues who took advantage of deregulation of service delivery parts of MAF to establish NZ’s most successful private, national veterinary diagnostic company. We employed 60 staff and established two subsidiaries- a food microbiology testing laboratory (Food Scientific) and TransAlpha (see above). The parent company had international clients and a prominent profile nationally. The business was sold to an Australian pathology corporate in 2003. My involvement in this start-up demonstrates the vision, drive and strategy I contributed to the founding group.
