Marketing Manager

Claude Neon Advertising

January 1987 - January 1989 (2 years)

Responsible for the marketing activities and management team at 3 production sites (AKL/WN/CHC). Interesting job, large focus on achieving National sales targets with responsibility for signing off of contracts over a certain value. In some ways it was more of an 'operations' job since the Branch Managers reported to me, but then there were projects I did that were purely marketing. So it was a mixed bag. While there I started up (and was initial chair of) the Outdoor Advertising Association, designed to lobby Government and Local Councils. This was before the RMA... Met some great people - even those I didn't see eye-to-eye with were good people too!

Division Manager

January 1984 - December 1988 (4 years)

Looked after a big team (18 or so) of District Sales Managers, all female, who 'notionally' reported to me... and did my best to make sure they had the best opportunity to perform. And for 5 years they did! Usual role of Leader/Motivator/Coach/Resource provider/Counsellor/Recruiter/Trainer/Talent Retainer/Budget Controller. Looking back: awesome job, wonderful people, learned heaps, achieved much.
