“I have experience in governance roles across not-for-profit, Government and private enterprise sectors. As a co-founder of a social enterprise that teaches governance and strategy to Maori organisation leaders I am fortunate to understand high level trends shaping the world, what it takes to grow a world-class organisation, and the needs of our communities.”

Te Whare Hukahuka

February 2015 - Present (4 years)

As a director of Te Whare Hukahuka we have set an ambitious goal of improving the lives of 10 million indigenous people through building the capability of community organisation leaders. We have grown the organisation fast and through this work I was named in the Forbes Asia 30 Under 30 - as one of the 30 top Social Entrepreneurs in Asia under 30 years old, and as finalists in the 2016 NZ Innovation Awards.

Founding Trustee

Teach First NZ

January 2011 - Present (8 years)

TeachFirst NZ has a vision of eliminating education inequality in New Zealand. We bring high quality education to low-decile secondary schools by attracting the very best young leaders to teach in high schools and inspire our youth, and keep them engaged with education. The governance role has gone through the whole organisational lifecycle from a 'working board' to a 'strategic board' as we have grown. Key milestones included + 3x independent assessments proving impact + hosting the Teach For All global conference in 2015 + recent announcement that the Ministry of Education will expand the programme + recently winning 2 industry awards at the NZ Association of Graduate Employers Awards- "Best Innovation in the Graduate Sector" and "Best Diversity Strategy", making us one of the top choices for NZ's best and brightest graduates. As one of two co-founders I have been involved with the full spectrum of managerial and operational tasks, including: + Leading the implementation of the growth strategy + Forming partnerships with Government and private sector + Sales and project management + Designing and developing training programmes for Maori leaders + Implementing systems + Hiring team + Leading branding and marketing projects to build the brand profile of Te Whare Hukahuka in New Zealand and internationally.

Head of Maori Development

The Icehouse

November 2011 - December 2014 (3 years)

Armed with a passion to enable Maori leaders to run world-class organisations, I led the development and implementation of a Maori strategy that involved coordinating an expert team developing and testing several Maori business training programmes, and working with more than 400 Maori leaders in 3 years. We did advisory to Government, became preferred suppliers to Government, partnered with iwi, and raised significant capital from our charitable trust partners. The end result was to house this activity outside of The Icehouse and keep it as a strategic alliance.
