Ka Eke Poutama is a practical programme which develops skills and confidence in the area of governance, in an effort to promote emerging maori professionals into governance roles. The course is presented as a unique mix of innovation, entrepreneurship, and leadership, and has given me a sense of higher confidence and increased capability in my role as a governor. The programme built my understanding of the various components of governance including: Roles & Responsibilities, Risk Management, Strategic Thinking, Measuring & Monitoring Progress, Effective Communication, and provided me with useful tools to assist with asking good questions, strategic planning, and building a board.
