South Pacific Pictures, a television production company based Auckland, was originally a subsidiary of TVNZ. The company produces drama series, mini-series and films for the domestic and international markets. In 1992 it commenced production of Shortland Street for TV2. This remains New Zealand’s prime-time soap opera. It is the country's longest-running drama – having been broadcast continuously for over 6,000 episodes and 24 years.
