Ethnic New Zealand Trust

September 2014 - Present (3 years)

 Undertook 7 days of training as a human rights facilitator provided by the Human Rights Commission, learning techniques to develop and present a more in-depth understanding of human rights.  Managed and delivered human rights projects in the community, including a workshop delivered to the National Council of Women regarding the way women are portrayed in advertising, a workshop for Muslim women regarding safety in public places, and a partnership with the Young Workers Resource Centre to deliver 4 workshops to schools in Hamilton about rights and responsibilities in the workplace.

Campaign for Consent (Hamilton)

November 2013 - Present (4 years)

 Formed this organisation in November 2013 to advocate for victims of sexual violence and abuse.  Organised march on 16 November 2013 for National Day of Action Against Rape Culture; organised public meeting with speakers including Louise Nicholas & Dr Neville Roberston; liaised with University of Waikato staff to undertake research on levels of unreported sexual violence in ethnic minority communites; delivered positive messages on consent to over 3,000 university students.  Selected to be a member of ACC Advisory Panel on development of “Mates and Dates” programmes in high schools in 2015.  Managed and delivered a research project to develop Good Practice Guidelines for specialist service providers, who deal with Muslim clients.  Selected to be on ACC’s Expert Reference Group (Sexual Violence Prevention) in 2017


Waikato Community Broadcasting Charitable Trust

November 2006 - Present (11 years)

 Trustee since November 2006.  Gained experience in strategic management and governance.  Performed General Manager’s performance review over several years, and guided decisions of the Board regarding remuneration  Involved in scrutinising actual performance compared to budgets on a monthly basis, and generally ensuring sound financial management of the Trust.  Facilitated strategic planning workshops for the Board.

 Member since May 2006.  Gained experience in event organisation and management, from being the main organiser of the fourth National Interfaith Forum in February 2007, and part of the organising team of the ninth National Interfaith Forum in February 2012.  Gained experience in working closely with people from a variety of backgrounds with significant differences on a range of projects to promote social harmony.  Involved in organising multi-faith prayers, tree-plantings, panel discussions, speaking to schools.

 Founding member; trustee and treasurer from incorporation (September 2002) to April 2005, then again since September 2006.  Gained experience in preparing funding applications, including budgets  Development and oversight of internal control systems relating to finance  Gained experience in governance and strategic management, including development of 3-5 year strategic plan.  Gained significant experience in employment issues, including interviewing and appointing staff, and dealing with staffing issues.  Received some training in domestic violence issues.  Worked as Strategic Manager, part-time position in 2015, to build the capacity of the organisation, restructure, secure more and longer-term funding. This has ensured the long-term survival of the organisation.
